About ToolBrook
ToolBrook builds narrow, specific calculators for jobs that generic tools handle poorly. Every calculator names the formula or guidance it is built on and links to the source, so you can check our work instead of taking it on faith.
Most calculator sites cover broad, generic ground: BMI, mortgage payments, unit conversions. That's useful, but it means the specific questions people actually search for, like how long a fishless cycle really takes at a given temperature and pH, or how large a rain garden needs to be for a specific roof and soil type, often get answered by a forum thread, a static chart, or nothing interactive at all. ToolBrook exists to fill that gap: one calculator per specific question, built around a real formula or documented guidance rather than a rule of thumb.
Every tool goes through the same process before it's published. We check who already has a working calculator for that exact question, so we're not duplicating something a bigger, more established site already does well. We identify the actual formula or guidance behind the answer, whether that's a published chemistry equation, a university extension service's timing recommendation, or a manufacturer's documented process. And we write the calculator's "how this is calculated" section to name that source directly and link to it, including being explicit about where a number is our own reasonable estimate rather than a figure pulled straight from a study. See the Sources & Methodology page for more detail on how that process works.
ToolBrook is built and maintained by a small, independent team. It isn't backed by a manufacturer, retailer, or an agency with a product to sell through the calculators, which is part of why the tools can point you honestly toward a competitor's calculator when theirs is genuinely the better fit for your situation, something a few of our tool pages do outright.
Formulas are reviewed and updated when the underlying guidance changes. If you spot something that looks wrong, email kyle@getfitarchitect.com.
